About this deal

the wave finally broke, crashing over and flooding everything in my life, and i was drowning without any sign of shore. this was also my first memoir, and i absolutely loved the way it was formatted, with the journal prompts and fan questions. If you were the one walking on the street for a cup of coffee and were suddenly invited by the flashy cameras, how would you feel? Trig proposes to Aster at a church service, but Ellie and Paul publicly interrupt the moment by sharing the true meaning of "love" using Ellie's wording from a previous letter. It's Madison Beer's journal with a few "Ask Amy" style sections and a handful of journal prompts for the reader.

although short, this is a vulnerable memoir (including journal prompts and answers to fan questions) touching on madison’s rather unique experience of navigating childhood fame, growing up under the eyes of millions online, and dealing with mental health struggles. Decider said the plot is "an unbearably cute premise—a modern-day Cyrano de Bergerac with a queer twist—that seems so perfect and so obvious, it’s a wonder the movie hasn’t been made yet", and "an adorable teen film that will no doubt service an extremely underserved audience. It hammers home the point, more striking and urgent than ever, that no matter how close the internet may make us feel to people, we truly don’t know the half of it. In "The Half of It", Madison pulls back the curtain to show the behind-the-scenes of her journey, from reckoning with mass hate online and the time her private pictures were leaked, to battling suicidal thoughts while making her highly acclaimed debut album, Life Support, and her recovery since then. I appreciate her awareness that there are more heartbreaking stories out there, especially when it comes to the intersectionality of privilege involved, but when a woman who “has it all” is still not immune to the devastating and let’s be honest LIFE THREATENING affects of misogyny we should acknowledge that as a huge alarm ball and really consider what it means for women far less privileged than her living under the same system she describes. all i’ve known about her so far is that she was found on youtube by justin bieber, she’s had social media famous boyfriends and she’s stunningly beautiful to the point people hate her for it. I'd sacrifice true happiness if it meant avoiding true sadness"I'm not going to trauma-dump on you, but as someone who has been through terrible depressive episodes, some of Madison's lines felt straight out of my brain when I was going through them.

Another things I really appreciated was her discussing her presence cemented on the internet; people can talk all they want about “you chose this, and if you can’t handle it, why don’t you stop? The only descriptive story I could actually picture was one of the very last ones where she is shooting the final scene for her "Reckless" music video. It was inspiring to hear how other people, who you may not think struggle with anxiety and depression, get through it. Loner Ellie Chu lives in the remote town of Squahamish, where she makes extra money writing homework papers for her fellow students. The New York Times noted that "Wu suffuses the film with a painfully mature understanding of the ache of longing for the impossible.I had a soft spot for her as an artist already, and now that I know more about her and her goals, I want her to succeed in every single one.

We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. the topics were repetitive, the same paragraphs about internet bullies, her feeling suicidal and about how people shouldn’t be bullies.g. her insecurities, red flags) but maybe that's just because after reading her memoir, i now want to sit down with her and have a conversation about mental health and life experiences. Another thing I also loved about this book was the incorporation of the journal prompts because it felt like I had the opportunity to look back upon my life, my choices, my thoughts and my feelings and then put them on paper so that I can get some kind of satisfaction and healing.
